Vacationing During Social Distancing

I am still social distancing as much as possible. Thankfully my job lets me work from home. I’ve been ordering take out from my favorite restaurants. I’ve been washing my hands until they’re ashy (of course using our Body Nectar afterward to keep my skin supple.) I’ve also been wearing my mask and sanitizing etc.

However….

I was tired of being in the same city looking at the same walls and out the same windows during my work week. I needed new scenery

I don’t trust airlines enough to fly just yet, and I knew that I wanted to bring enough disinfectant with me to sanitize wherever I was staying, so I decided on a road trip.

I got a condo on Hilton Head Island using Airbnb. We’ve stayed in this condo before, and I knew it was clean, but I was pleasantly surprised to see the owners had kicked the cleaning up since the pandemic. I also came and sprayed disinfectant on all the surfaces for a little extra confidence.

I decided on a condo because I’ve read stories about people in hotels being exposed during the pandemic. I also know that sometimes hotel rooms are on the same ventilation system. So, I thought that renting a condo or house would reduce risk.

We social distanced. Cooked our meals and did a lot of walking. It was all so relaxing to be near the water.

Was it my fanciest, most exciting vacay? No, but I ended up returning home with a new appreciation for everything. I also got time to crank out a few blog posts, and that’s something I’ve been struggling with for the past few months. So it was time well spent.

This pandemic has been a reset on all things, including vacations. I have friends who are comfortable enough to fly and take their regular vacations at resorts worldwide. I respect that. I’m more concerned as I’ve had family die from COVID during the pandemic, so this was my workaround to cabin fever. Neither way is right or wrong; I just wanted to share with you another option. Make sure you always feel comfortable.

Vacations are a form of self-care. We need to get away to see something different and find a new perspective. I just wanted to share with you that if you could get away for a couple of days and you didn’t feel comfortable with hotels or air travel, a road trip is an excellent option.
